House Fly Rap Sheet

Name: House Fly
AKA: Buzzy
Scientific Name: Musca domestica
Description: 1/8 - 1/4 inch; stout body; 4 black lengthwise stripes on greyish-black thorax; Grey to yellow-brown abdomen with dark markings on the sides. Large reddish compound eyes; feathery antennae; transparent wings. Mouth parts expanded at the tip for sponging and lapping up food. They have hairy legs with sharp claws and adhesive (pulvillar) pads for holding onto surfaces.
Diet: Adult sucks on liquid containing sweet or decaying substances. Larvae feed on moist food rich in decaying organic matter.
Habitat: Near garbage, manure, decaying or exposed foods
Wanted For: Being a nuisance, contamination of food and most seriously carrying diseases such as typhoid fever, cholera, dysentery, pinworms, hookworms and some tapeworms.
Last Known Location: Crashing outdoor picnics.
