Lady Bug Rap Sheet

Name: Lady Bug, Nine-Spotted Ladybug Beetle
AKA: Spot
Scientific Name: Coccinela novemnotata
Description: 1/4 inch; almost hemispherical; head and thorax are small and black with yellow or white markings; legs black to brown. The wing covering (elytra) is red or reddish orange with nine black spots.
Diet: Aphids or small soft bodied insects such as mites.
Habitat: Meadows, crop fields, marshes and gardens.
Wanted For: Gardening! Ladybugs are a gardeners best friend because they eat the pests that damage vegetables and fruits. Often they are introduced in large numbers as an "biological" means of controlling pests.
Last Known Location: On your bean or pea plants eating up the fat little aphids that are sucking the juices from the plant.
