How to Use This Site
How to Search for an Image
--Use the Quick Search field to type in a keyword (e.g. flea) and proceed with a Search.
--Use the Browse Category to browse for images within 13 major categories.
--Use Advanced Search to search by category, image number, keywords, or any combination thereof. Our Advanced Search Page has a list of keywords associated with the Image Library, as well as keyword hints to assist you with finding images easily. Use singular words for the best results (i.e. flea, not fleas).
How to View Larger Images
Thumbnail images can be clicked to view a large detailed image with full caption, magnification and keywords.
How to Select and Add Images to a Light Box
Add images to a light box by clicking on the Add to Light Box button below a thumbnail image or from the detail page. Images are immediately placed in the light box. The Light Box area in the lower left column will show the image numbers that are in your light box, the most recently added in red.
How to Use the Light Box
View your light box by clicking one of the Light Box buttons or links located on every page. For information on how to use the Light Box specifically, click Light Box Information. You may select and add images to a light box without creating an account. If you start a light box and wish to save it, create an account before leaving the site. Use the Create an Account link in the Log In area on the left-side menu to create an account. Your light box will be saved under your email address and password, and you can retrieve it at any time. Please remember to log off of this site for your security.
How to Request Permission to Use an Image
Once you have finalized images in your light box you can request permission to use the image(s) by using the "Request Permission" button. If you are a new customer or have not logged in, you will be directed to the Log In page, where you can either log in, or create an account. In submitting a request for permission to use an image, you will be asked to supply information about your project and confirm details. You will be contacted by email regarding your request. When you request permission to use an image, your light box images are saved and can then be found in your Account History when logged in.
How to Edit Your Permission Request
On the Request Permission Confirmation page, you can go back and edit your images. To edit your images, click the "Edit" link in the Images section of the page. You will be taken back to your light box, where you can remove images and update the light box. Then click the "Request Permission" button to go back to your permission request. To edit your request details, click the "Edit" link in the Options section. You will be taken back to the Request Permission Information page, where you can change your project details. Then click "Continue" to confirm these changes and proceed on to completion of the Request Permission.
How to Create an Account
Use the Create an Account link in the Log In area on the left-side menu to create an account, or click Continue from the Log In page. By creating an account you will be able to save a light box, view your history of previous permission requests, and select images from permision requests you have previously made.
How to Use the Account History
Once you log in you have access to your General Account Information and Account History that contains previous submissions for permission requests. You account history will contain a permission request number and date along with the images you selected. To view the images click on the "View" button to obtain a light box. Images may be added from the account history area to a current light box that can be saved (automatically when you log off) or submitted to request permission to use them for an education project.
