Caption: Fruit fly tarsal claw and pulvilli (Drosophila melanogaster). Pulvilli are the hairy adhesive organs at the end of Dipteran (fly) legs (usually located at the base of the claws). Tenet setae are the hairs (with adhesive ends) that make up a puvillus. An adhesive substance is secreted through the tubular tenent setae allowing a fly to attach to smooth surfaces.
