Caption: Tip of a dental drill bit with diamond chips. Dental drill bits are made of hard metal alloy (small rotary files) known as "burs". Dental burs come in a great variety of shapes designed for specific dental applications. They are often made of steel with a tungsten carbide coating, or entirely of tungsten carbide. The bur may also have diamond chips embedded in a coating.
