Description: Vibrio parahaemolyticus - halophilic, facultative anerobic, rod bacterium that causes a foodborne illness known as seafood poisoning. Usually transmited through eating raw or undercooked seafood such as oysters. Less commonly, this organism can cause an infection in the skin when an open wound is exposed to warm seawater.
