Caption: Staphylococcus epidermidis - Gram-positive, coccoid prokaryote (dividing). S. epidermidis is usually non-pathogenic, found harmlessly on the human skin and mucous membrane surfaces. It is associated with acne and minor skin lesions. These bacteria colonize plastic resulting in eye infections (endophthalmitis) and bacteremia around catheters and surgical implants.
